Internship at University of Milan

On February 3rd, 2022 - March 1st, 2022, a PhD student at the Department of Reproduction with the Clinic of Farm Animals of the UPWr - DVM. Maria Eberhardt completed an internship at the University of Milano, under supervision of prof. Gaia Cecilia Luvoni and dr Martina Colombo. The aim of this mobility was to develop of a protocol of zona binding assay for the evaluation of European bison (wisent) epididymal frozen semen. Getting familiar with this method was essential for the performance of one of the research tasks included in Maria’s PhD research. The development of the zona binding assay for wisent semen was successful, and during the stay with the support of the laboratory team Maria Eberhardt was able to optimize every step of the protocol and then apply it as a part of her PhD studies.


During this stay Maria became a member of the UNIMI Lab team and engaged in routine duties and laboratory life. Also, she had the opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss scientific topics not only related to her doctoral thesis, but broadening her research horizons.


During this month, in addition to intensive laboratory work, she had the opportunity to visit nearby cities, getting familiar with Italian culture and taste local specialties.
