Students internship at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna
On February 15, 2022 - March 23, 2022, two students of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Wrocław, further PhD student candidates: Oliwia Uchańska and Skarlet Napierkowska, performed an internship at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna. The stay was aimed at improving the research skills of young scientists. The tasks assigned during the stay included:
- Introduction into scientific working and planning of research projects
- Introduction into laboratory work (processing of blood and tissue samples, processing of sperm samples, analysis of blood and tissues samples, animal experimentation).
For 5 weeks they worked together with the Centre for Artificial Insemination and Embryo Transfer team, observing their scientific work. They were involved in collecting samples necessary for research, learned the process of evaluating stallion semen and performed laboratory tests (ELISA) of selected samples.
The students had a chance to participate in weekly meetings devoted to analysis of scientific articles and in the International Symposium on Stallion Reproduction organized by the Department for Small Animals and Horses.
Apart from intensive laboratory work, they took the opportunity to visit the city and its surroundings, get acquainted with Austrian culture and taste the best specialties of Viennese gastronomy.
