A study visit of the researcher from Mediolan in Ghent

Between April 18th and April 25th, 2022. Dr. Martina Colombo from the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences, University of Milan (UNIMI - Italy) had the chance to visit the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Reproduction and Population Medicine, in Gent University (UGhent - Belgium), under the supervision of Prof. Ann Van Soom.


The short stay allowed Martina to get to know the facilities and the activities of the Reproduction Team in UGhent. Martina could follow both clinical and laboratory activities concerning the reproduction of small and large animals.

Research meetings were organized between Martina and the UGhent Team, to discuss results obtained under this Project, focusing in particular on oocyte 3D culture and cryopreserva tion, and to hypothesize possibilities for joint research in the future.

In addition, Martina could also organize a progress meeting with Isa Mohammed Alkali, PhD student from UNIMI who was spending a longer period in UGhent for a re search internship, and she could visit the modern histology facilities of UGhent. The stay also gave the chance to plan future mobility of UGhent PhD students who wish to perform a research in UNIMI.

Finally, the last day of Martina’s stay was dedicated to attend a very interesting workshop on “Comparative Oocyte Models”, thanks to the EUROVA European Training Network.
