Młody pracownik naukowy z Wrocławia odbył trzymiesięczny staż w Gandawie


On February 5, 2022 - May 7, 2022 Dr. Bartłomiej Jaśkowski, assistant professor at the Department of Reproduction and Clinic of Farm Animals (UPWr), completed a three-month internship at the University of Ghent (Department of Internal Diseases, Reproduction and Population Medicine, Belgium) under the supervision of prof. Geert Opsomer.

The main goal of the mobility to Ghent was to conduct an experiment on the influence of culture conditions on the viability of bovine endometrial explants and to assess transcriptomic changes in the cultured tissue. The research was conducted in a intercontinental team, which, apart from Dr. Jaśkowski, included Paraguayan, Iranian and Turkish. The result of the joint work is a scientific report for the Association of Embryo Technology in Europe (AETE) conference, work on the publication is in progress.

The stay in Belgium was filled not only with laboratory work. In his spare time, the trainee had the opportunity to accompany veterinarians working at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the UGent in their work in servicing private cattle herds. Thanks to such visits, he was able to learn about local procedures for animals and the methods of practical teaching of future veterinary practitioners.

The days off could be spent on sightseeing trips. In this way, it was possible to get to know the most historic places in Belgium and to taste numerous local delicacies, and at the same time to establish friendly relations that will continue after the end of work on the current project.
