Research internship at the University of Padua
From 24/02/2022 to 10/03/2022 a researcher from the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology
of the UPWr - dr hab. Aleksandra Pawlak completed an internship at the University of Padua as part
of scientific cooperation with Professor Mauro Dacasto's team. The aim of the mobility was to
continue the joint research on the possibility of using PARP inhibitors in oncology in dogs - in patients
with lymphoma or leukemia. Together with Professor Dacasto's team, the research task was
performed, consisting in preparing canine tumor cells treated with the model PARP inhibitor -
olaparib for the NGS technique. The results of this study will provide comprehensive information on
the feasibility of developing a new anticancer therapy for dogs.
The joint meeting was also an opportunity to exchange experiences and shared inspiration.
Aleksandra Pawlak had the opportunity to observe the work and learn about the research techniques
used in the visited unit. In the team of prof. Dacasto there will be a new PhD student who will
continue the topic of the importance of PARP inhibitors in canine oncology. During joint discussions,
a plan for further cooperation was also established, e.g. a visit by Professor Dacasto's team to the
UPWr and the participation of lecturers in this year's edition of the summer school as part of the
Spinaker program (funded by NAWA).
