Two PhD students visiting Ghent University

On June 7-14, 2022 two PhD students from the Department of Reproduction and Clinic of Farm Animals (UPWr) - Maria Eberhardt and Meriem Baouche - completed a training visit at the University of Ghent (Department of Internal Diseases, Reproduction and Population Medicine, Belgium).

The stay was aimed at getting familiar with isolation and characterization of extracellular vesicles (EV). Both PhD students would like to use these amazing nanoparticles in their doctoral research. During this exchange, they had the opportunity to work with and learn from one of the most recognized researchers in this field - Dr. Krishna Pavani.

Dr. Pavani conducted theoretical training and practical exercises in EV isolation for visiting PhD students. To confirm the success of EV isolation, under the supervision of dr. Guan XueFeng, Maria and Meriem performed Western Blots. The next day after isolation, together with Dr. Pavani they went to the University of Bonn in order to visualize isolated EV in an electron microscope with the help of Dr. Joachim Hamacher.

The stay in Ghent was short but extremely intensive and fruitful for both PhD students. Fortunately, between the work in the laboratory, they found time to explore this beautiful city, try belgian fries and chocolates and spend time with friends met during other exchanges as part of the NAWA project.
