International workshops on reproductive biotechniques within NAWA ScienceNet project – part II: Cryobanking: a life insurance for biodiversity
On November 6th, 2021, the second part of the series of workshops organized as part of the NAWA ScienceNet project (no. PPI/APM/2019/1/00044) on reproductive biotechniques took place. This time the course master was prof. Gaia Cecylia Luvoni from the University of Milan. The co-organizers were: the Department of Reproduction and Clinic of Farm Animals, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences (ScienceNet project leader), EDRA and project partners: Ghent University (Belgium), L'École Nationale Vétérinaire d'Alfort (France) and the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna (Austria). The event was held under the patronage of the Committee of Veterinary Sciences and Reproductive Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
This part of the workshop was entitled "Cryobanking: a life insurance for biodiversity" and the subject of the lectures focused on the cryopreservation of sperm, oocytes, embryos and ovarian tissue as methods of banking the genetic material of animals. Lectures were presented by both project participants and invited guests: Amir Arav (Israel), Ann van Soom (Belgium), Guillaume Domain (Belgium), Martina Colombo (Italy), Malgorzata Ochota (Poland), Hiba Ali Hassan (Belgium), Katrien Smits (Belgium), Daniel Velez (Belgium), Manuel Hidalgo (Spain), Valentina Lodde (Italy), Agnieszka Partyka (Poland), Silvia Cerolini (Italy), Smadar Tal (Israel) and Susanne Holtze (Germany).
Just like the previous part, also part II took place in the online formula. The workshops were attended by over 163 people from different countries around the world. After the workshop, there was an opportunity to watch the recordings of the lectures, which was used by many registered participants who, for example, due to the difference in time zones, could not take part in the live event. The date of the next part of the workshop was set for March 12, 2022.
