International workshops on reproductive biotechniques within NAWA ScienceNet project - part V: Clinical aspects of feline reproduction: an update
On September 16th, 2022, the fifth and final part of the series of workshops organized as part of the NAWA ScienceNet project (no. PPI/APM/2019/1/00044) on reproductive biotechniques took place. The course master was prof. Alain Fontbonne from L'École Nationale Vétérinaire d'Alfort (France). The co-organizers were: the Department of Reproduction and Clinic of Farm Animals, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences (ScienceNet project leader), EDRA and project partners: Ghent University (Belgium), University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna (Austria) and the University of Milan (Italy). The event was held under the patronage of the Committee of Veterinary Sciences and Reproductive Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
The workshop was entitled: “Clinical aspects of feline reproduction: an update” and, as the title suggests, focused on the clinical aspects of feline reproduction, in particular fertility - both in the context of infertility diagnosis and treatment, as well as methods of pharmacological fertility control. Some of the lectures were also devoted to the practical aspects of feline reproductive biotechniques: semen collection and preservation, and artificial insemination. Lectures were given by both project participants: Sylwia Prochowska (Poland, Wrocław), Sabine Schäfer-Somi (Austria) and Alain Fontbonne, Juliette Roos and Zuzanna Niewiadomska (France), as well as the greatest specialists in the field of cat reproduction: Eva Axner (Sweden), Daniele Zambelli and Marco Cunto (Italy), Maria-Isabel Mello-Martins (Brazil), Aime Johnson (USA), Lluis Ferre-Dolcet and Stefano Romagnoli (Italy).
Like the previous ones, this part also took place in the online formula. Over 300 people from different countries around the world took part in the workshops. Despite the end of the NAWA ScienceNet project, the workshops were so positively received that they will be continued.
